The VEHICLES programme is an industry funded research project coordinated by the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) of Cambridge University. The programme aims to develop tools and methodologies to improve through-life decisions and enhance current and future business processes in the vehicle sector through timely and effective R&D.

This programme will support the vehicle industry with objective and independent research to help participating organisations to plan for, and implement effective vehicle data management systems aimed at improving service provision. It will focus on ways in which organisations in the vehicle value chain can extract maximum benefits from data capture and management technologies, drawing on cross-sectoral learning and experience gained from other fields.

Participating companies span the complete vehicle value chain, consisting of leading vehicle manufactures, component suppliers, service and maintenance providers, logistics organisations, VEHICLES is and vehicle recyclers.

The key business drivers that support this type of development that have been identified during consultations with industry are (i) reduction in total lifecycle cost; and (ii) improving customer loyalty and satisfaction. Consequently, the objectives of all research strands in this programme are to: (a) reduce cost of service provision; and (b) to improve product and service confidence.
